The first thing I like to do is introduce myself and briefly get to know who I'm tutoring, next thing I do is identify what points the student is trying to strengthen or learn. I then take the time to make a flexible plan in order to help them improve their skills.
I have worked with kids ranging from eight to seventeen, along with some adults.
Look for someone who's willing to pace themselves to your learning level, especially if you're struggling. Patience and creativity are great traits in a tutor!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should always identify what topics they're wanting to strengthen and if they're not sure which points they need to work on, they should let their teacher know so they can be briefly "tested" in order to identify their weaknesses.
