About Megan

Hi everybody!

I have been teaching Special Education for 8 years and I am currently working at a private - out of district school for students with cognitive, emotional, and behavior needs. I graduated from Monmouth University with a BA in History & Education, with a Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement. Throughout the past two years, I continued my education with Fairleigh Dickenson and obtained a "Orton Gillingham Teacher for the Dyslexic" certificate. I am extremely passionate about my job and can't imagine doing anything else. I am very flexible and easy going and a strength of mine is my outgoing nature makes even the most shy of students feel comfortable.

Now is the perfect time to improve student's reading skills virtually. Orton Gillingham tutoring (for Language Arts) really works!!!! I have also tutored Math, and Social studies. About the lesson

I always like to develop a good repour with my students prior to jumping right in. This is important because when a child is able to let their guard down, they are able to show me a much more accurate assessment of their skills.

Orton Gillingham: I will begin with an evaluation of reading and writing sounds (higher level students will also be tested on other topics such as language rules, roots, affixes).

Based on this assessment I then create a lesson plan which contains reviewing material, and a lesson with new material that contained a specific isolated goal for the student.

Every lesson is strictly detailed and based on the previous lesson.

As for regular tutoring (Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts) I meet with the student and their parents to formulate a list of goals, strengths, weaknesses, what they are working on, etc. If you would prefer, I can always send a document for you and your child to fill out together.

I then take this information and develop lesson plans (which can also contain homework help if desired!) I do like to make notes each session and create a report periodically so the student can see the progress they are making :)
