About Erin

What I find most satisfying about a tutoring job is seeing the growth and improvement in each student in whicever subject this may be. I am dedicated to each student I tutor, and will work with the student until that student is satisfied with his or her improvement in the requested subject.

For as long as I can remeber, I had a passion for helping others. I became involved with an organization known as Access Sports, where I helped children with various disabilities to play soccer, baseball, or basketball. In addition, I led teams for Relay for Life, an organization that raises money for Cancer research. As I transitioned from middle school to high school, I continued volunteering for Access Sports and Relay for Life, but looked for other ways to help the community. Throughout high school, I was involved with the peer tutoring organization. I tutored my high school peers in a variety of subjects including in Chemistry, Biology, Calculus, Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry, English, Spanish, and Government. I thoroughly enjoyed observing the smile on the students face after they understood how to solve a math problem or understood a conceptual biology topic.

I graduated from York High School with a 4.0 unweighted GPA. Transitioning from high school to Boston College, I hope to continue to help others love to learn. I am patient, organized, and enthusiastic! By joining this website, I hope to help students understand topics both procedurally and conceptually.

I started to tutor in high school when I realized my enjoyment for helping my other peers that were enrolled in the same classes as I was. They would ask me for help after school or during lunch and I would love teaching them and helping them understand the topics that were taught. I wanted to expand my teaching ability to other peers outside of my classmates, so I decided to volunteer as a student tutor during my study hall and lunch period.

I was apart of a tutoring club in my high school. In this club, I would tutor students in various subjects including in Spanish, calculus, algebra, geometry, English, biology, chemistry, and physics. Transitioning into college, I wanted to continue tutoring, so I joined GoPeer where I tutored students starting my freshman year. I tutored numerous students ranging from ages in middle school to college students.

About the lesson

My typical process for working with a new student is to get in contact with the new student and question the student about the requested subject that he or she seeks tutoring in. After I know more about the subject and about the student (best way he or she learns, if there are worksheets that he or she has or if I can create or find worksheets that would best help the student, etc.), I will converse with the student about a time that would work for both of us.

I have worked with students of ages ranging from those of middle school to college students. These students vary in requested subjects and in the difficulty of their courses (regular, honors, and AP classes).

The advice I would give a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise would to be sure to engage in a conversation with the prospective teacher to ensure that the teacher fits all of the traits that you are looking for as a student. For example, students have various ways of learning best. It is important for the teacher to understand this and to adapt to best fit the students needs.

Going into my freshman year at Boston College, I had a keen interest in Spanish culture and language. Because of this interest, I enrolled in a Spanish course where I improved my speaking, listening, and grammar skills. I was so interested in learning more about the Spanish culture, that I applied to the Atlantis fellowship and had the eye-opening opportunity to shadow doctors in Tarragona, Spain. At the end of my freshman year, I was honored to receive the Achievement Award for Intermediate Spanish 2, a competitive award offered to two students out of 28 intermediate classes. This award provided a great sense of acadmeic and personal accomplishment, as it not only represented the effort I put into the course, but also the desire to further my knowledge in Hispanic studies.
