About Abigail

I am a junior at Elon Univeristy. I entered college as a mathematics major, but ultimately decided to change my major to Environmental Science with a minor in Geographical Information Systems. I am hoping to have a career in data analytics. I have always excelled in mathematics and tutored while in high school. I took high level math courses including AP Statistics and am extremely confident in all math subjects. I also am proficient in Spanish. I have studied the language since I was 14 and tested out in college but have taken college level Spanish courses. I am very positive and patient and have a true passion for learning and helping others learn!

I love seeing each indivdual grow and learn throughout our time together. I have such a passion for the subjects that I teach and I know that for many it is a burden and a struggle. My main goal as a tutor is to make learning these subjects as enjoyable as possible and to help them build confidence in their abilities.

I am a junior at the Elon University. In high school I was apart of the tutoring facility in our library and helped my peers with their math and Spanish courses.

About the lesson

First it is always important to evaluate the individual's understanding of the subject to understand not only what they struggle with, but to also learn what their learning process looks like. Then I like to give lessons, these lessons vary for the age of each student and the subject that is being covered but it always involves doing work together and explaining the process as we work. Once I feel that they are more comfortable and have confidence in the subject, I let them do work on their own to see what they can do and evaluate what needs further explanation. I like to use videos as an aid and think that it always most beneficial to the student if the work they are doing is related to their everday life.
