About Cara

Hi! I'm a college student that's been helping my classmates with their work for years and years. I also occasionally tutor my younger sister's friends. I'm most comfortable with math below and at College Algebra level. I also do basic Chemistry, Biology, and I can also help with English. I've got a sharp eye for grammar and I like to help people enjoy what theyre writing. I come from an angle that's more like a peer than a teacher, which allows me to make the students more comfortable. I understand how frustrating the education system can be for some people, and I love helping people understand what works for them.

Honestly, I just want more people to enjoy learning. I've had a lot of classmates over the years that were so lost an confused that they hated class. I know it doesn't have to be that way, but in a lot of classrooms, the teachers frequently can't give the attention to students that are behind. It's my goal to make school less intimidating and to not only teach my students the subject they're trying to learn, but also how to learn more efficiently. I believe everyone should be taught how things work instead of being forced to simply memorize.

My sister struggles with math, and I frequently helped her with her work. This spread out to me answering my classmates questions in class, to meeting with them to help them work through homework after school.

I've never been professionally trained, but I've been helping people with classwork my entire life.

About the lesson

Before we meet for the first time, I'd like to take a look at any homework you have, or if you have notes, that could be sent as well. I want to get a feel for where you're at so I can make a gameplan before we get together. I also typically prefer to meet in public, like a local library. I find getting out of the house when studying helps us to think of it as a special treat.

Look at your strengths and weaknesses honestly, and come with an open mind. Also, if your teachers want you to solve problems in a specific way, let me know beforehand if possible. Also, please ask me questions as soon as they come to you! I don't mind being interrupted- I don't want you to get lost or lose your train of thought.
