About Les
Excellent fundamental understanding of numbers, very patient, and love the moment the lightbulb goes on and the student "gets it". I've an affinity for identifying what the block to assimilating a concept is .. and provide a creative solution based on each individual student.
I have volunteered at local elementary schools and would like to bring this experience to students in the West Valley.
Its the interaction with students. Helping them work through barriers to a clear understanding and an easier time with the subject.
A good friend was a teacher at Haynes St School. We were talking about his day and just in passing he said he could really use some help with teaching math. Too many in his very large class weren't keeping up. So one thing led to another and I found myself there the following week, helping those who needed it get up-to-speed.
I have been a volunteer math tutor at Haynes Street and Eugene Street Elementary Schools, grades 2 and 4. Plus was a math major through high school (B+ average). Math never seemed that a hard subject. I'd have to work at it sometimes sure, but always liked the logic behind it.

Every student is special. Everyone has their best way to learn something new. I like to talk about what's going on regarding the problem and get an idea of why it is so. Is it not understanding some fundamental principle? Or is it about a particular aspect of an equation? Or is it something else? Conversation and going over the issues brings to light why things are not being clearly understood.
Mostly just regular elementary school students who want a little extra help with math.
Find a tutor you like, who teaches in a way you like. That will make learning the material much easier.
I was checking in with the main office at Eugene St school to begin my tutoring day; chatting a little with the administrator. One of the students I'd been working with came in the door and when he saw me broke into a big smile. We always had fun working through his lessons. The administrator saw this and said, "oh! somebody likes their tutor". That makes you feel good.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Any particular questions they might have in mind. Let the tutor know what the difficulty is. But a lot of things can come up at the first conversation that will show which areas to begin working with. So in my case anyway, not a lot of prep needed in that way.
