About Salomon

As a young child, I attended speech therapy lessons with my brother as he needed supplemental help with his speech. The lessons accelerated my speech development at a much earlier age than normal, so I was able to help my brother improve his speech. Since then, I was blessed with good understanding of school subjects, allowing me to further help my brother, as well as my friends. I became an official tutor in high school and the rest is history!

I officially began tutoring 8 years ago when I started high school. My geometry teacher asked me to help struggling students once a week during lunch period and I would go on to maintain this position until my senior year, helping dozens of students. In my junior year, I joined my school's National Honor Society and began tutoring in all subjects twice a week. After earning the most tutoring hours of the year, I was elected Vice-President of the chapter and Head Tutor. During my year as Head Tutor, I helped students Monday-Thursday during lunch periods and after school, as well as helped teachers and coaches connect with my tutors.

While tutoring in high school, I returned to my former middle school to volunteer with old teachers. This time allowed me to work with middle school students on group assignments and observe my teachers' practices in the classroom.

As a civil engineering by profession, I hold service and community in high regard. My memories of helping others in high school inspired me to venture into the field of Engineering Education. As a junior in college, I was a student researcher on two, national-level projects focused on education of engineering, college students. I then proposed my own research project focused on studying Boston-area middle schools, for which I was recognized as a Cataldo Scholar in the civil engineering department.

My love for education has allowed me to work with students of all ages and talents, and it is a passion I want to keep pursuing.

About the lesson

When meeting with a new student, I like to understand both academic and non-academic interests. A simple yet clear set of goals for our sessions would be established. Discovering that the student is passionate about sports, music, art or any other activity then helps me adjust how I communicate with the student. Connecting studies with enjoyable activities and using familiar language to set up problems helped me as a young student, and I look forward to passing on that practice.

My experience is predominantly with middle and high school students (grades 6 through 12). I have tutored students enrolled in regular and honor classes, as well as some in intensive courses. I am also fluent in Spanish, so I worked with students who had recently immigrated to the U.S. and were still learning English.

My rate are of $25/30 minute session and $45/one hour session. However, I am always open to work with students and their families.
