About Jasdeep

I teach for long term growth and really focus on true understanding as opposed to memorization. I also like to pass along my knowledge of general study skills to my students, so that they learn the skills to succeed in their education for their entire life.

A big part of my life has been about education and learning, and I am passionate about passing on what I have learned to the next generation. I also, of course, enjoy the times when my student sees a major improvement in his grades at school.

I first started getting into the education field in 2011 when I started as a substitute teacher at a nearby school district.

I have two NJ Junior Certifications (aka Certificate of Eligibilities): 1. Elementary Education (all subjects, Grades 1-5) and Middle School Mathematics.

I did great on my Middle School Mathematics Subject Certification Exam (aka the Praxis), scoring a 198/200 (passing score is just 165).

I also currently work at a local tutoring center and have just branched off and started private tutoring.

About the lesson

First, I usually meet with the parent (and possibly the student as well) to discuss his expectations and goals. As we get more into it, I give the student a math assessment to see where he is in his math education. We then work from there. And in our 60 minute sessions thereafter, we usually spend 30 minutes on past material that I see that they need to work on, and 30 minutes on their current school material (they bring their homework/classwork to our sessions and we work off of that).

Mostly Grades 1 to 8, in mathematics.

Two weeks ago, my math student (7th grade) told me about his A that he received in mathematics at school. Teaching him has been rewarding experience and I was thrilled to hear this.
