With over 20+ years working with Elementary Age Students, I can assure you that my experience will help your child be successful with their learning and understanding of basic math concepts. As an instructor, my training has enabled me to pinpoint gaps and plan and provide a individualized path for success! Every students learning styles and abilities are different. I have been working as an Instructional Parapfrofessional in an Elementary School for over 20 years. In my job, I meet with and teach students daily in most subject areas (math, reading, writing, science, and social studies) and have worked with students age 5 - 11. In additon to that, I've been tutoring for over 10 years usually at the requests from parents I've met at the school I work at, or from word of mouth and recommnedations from several classroom teachers that know me and my skills. I love working with children and passing on my love for learning to them.

As a teachers assistant in the Elementary School Arena I have attended in district trainings of math intervention and instruction techniques, as well tutored many students successfully in basic math. The usual age group I tutored were ages 9 - 11, but I have daily math instruction expereince in my job working with students ages 5 - 11. I'm comfortable teaching one on one, as well as large and small groups. I'm familiar with several software platforms and have used such programs that align to common core such as Khan Academy, Dreambox as well as others.

About the lesson

The first session is an informal get to know you session. It is where needs are addressed, skills are tested, introductions are made, and student responsibilities or expectations are discussed.

I have worked with many students who have verbal, visual, and auditory learning disablilities, students on the spectrum, ADHD students, and other moderate needs disablilities, In addition to those studetns, I have also taught and tutored students in the general education population as well. Students that I tutor usually are aged 9 - 11, but over the years in my job I have taught and worked with students ages 5 - 12.

I would recommend making sure you are pinpointing down the instructional needs of your child, and making sure that the tutor you hire knows how to address and strengthen skills in those areas of need. Make sure they are providing relevant instruction, homework support, and assessing your child for progress. A good tutor will provide guidance, teach your child how to use tools and strategies, and allow your child to gain independence on thier own in order to have success in the classroom.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student should review the work they have been assigned and try to focus on what they know and are confident in, and what still needs more explanation and practice. This will help the teacher pinpoint where the student is struggling, practice and model the skill for the student, and assess whether or not more needs to be done in order to anchor the skill.

Details

My hourly rate is $25 per hour for both in person and online instruction. My time is not only spent meeting and working with each client at the scheduled time, but also researching, planning and preparing materials that are necessary to the tutoring session. My first session is an online meeting, and there is no charge. This ia usually an informal meet and greet to get to understand the job requirements and to see if we are a good fit for future meetings.
