About Melina
I am passionate about helping students be successful in math. Students will understand that there is more than one way to solve a math problem. I focus on breaking down word problems in order for students to determine what steps they need to take to solve the problem. I have been teaching for 8 years and have specialized in elementary Math for the past 4 years and currently teach 7th and 8th grade math. My certifications are in Elementary, Middle School, Exceptional Student Education and ESOL. I have been nominated for Teacher of the Year twice and also voted Teacher of the Month by my schools students. I am also the team leader for my 7th grade math team. I strive to make my students successful by introducing them to a varitety of math strategies and believing that all students can learn with the right tools and motivation.

When working with a new student, I like to make connections by talking about their interests as well as getting to know their background - do they like math, are they visual learners, do they prefer to use pictures or numbers, etc. I begin with simple problems and increase complexity from there.
