About Naomi

Hi! I'm an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science student at UC Berkeley with a passion for teaching. I've always had a strong desire to help people understand challenging concepts, and to do whatever I can to help them succeed.

I have tutored my peers informally since high school, which has translated to more official teaching roles in college. At Berkeley, I am part of several teaching organizations on campus. For instance, I am a Teaching Assistant for an upper-division Electrical Engineering course. I am also a part of two student-led teaching groups, where I hold weekly tutoring office hours and teach-small group discussion sections for Computer Science courses.

As a teacher and a tutor, I aim to be compassionate and adapt my teaching style to my students' needs. I understand that everyone learns differently, and has different backgrounds and interests. As a result, I cater my tutoring methods to my student' specific learning styles. Overall, I am dedicated to helping students get the most they can out of their educational experience.

I really enjoy the process of helping people understand challenging topics. Whenever I am teaching or tutoring, I feel like I'm doing truly meaningful work and helping my community. I love the opportunity to utilize my pedagogy and math knowledge from classes I have taken at UC Berkeley to help students succeed.

I have always have a passion for helping people learn, even when informally tutoring my classmates in high school. So, when I came to UC Berkeley, I almost immediately got involved in the teaching community. My second semester at Berkeley, I joined a student-led organization called Computer Science Mentors, where I taught a small-group (3-4 person) tutoring section on basic linear algebra. From there, I found more teaching opportunities, including being a Teaching Assistant and taking pedagogy courses.

I am currently a Teaching Assistant for a heavily math-based Electrical Engineering course at UC Berkeley.

Also, for the past two years, I have tutored UC Berkeley students on lower-division math and computer science classes as a part of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science honor society at Berkeley.

I am also part of a student group that provides weekly small-group tutoring sessions for computer science classes at Berkeley. Over the past two years, I have been involved with both the teaching and logistical aspects of this organization.

Additionally, I have taken a pedagogy course at Berkeley, where I learned about and applied adaptive instruction methods.

I typically talk with the student and to gauge out their background, general concerns with the subject I'm tutoring, and how they learn best. I think it's very important to establish trust with the student use the student's needs as the basis of my teaching style.
