About Mike
I take on any student of any age with no judgements and unlimited patience. My teaching style is goal oriented and meant for real life use.
Want help losing weight but find counting calories and reading nutrition labels to too challenging?
Are you falling behind in a busy math class and just want to get that passing grade on your next test?
Do you struggle saving money, but have a hard time budgetting?
I can help you become independent and take these things (and many others) on with ease with simple math tutoring.
I enjoy seeing people realize they made their lives better by learning how to use math on their everyday challenges.
I was helping my girlfriend out with percentages and factoring and she told me that I was a good tutor and should look into helping others so here I am.
I used to program a little and completed avanced calculus courses in highschool. I also worked as a freelance graphic designer which required the use of algebra to determine printing and construction methods. I also happen to be a certified personal trainer which requires math in basic nutrition science.
More importantly I'm well practiced today by using math in everyday life by doing my own finances, working as an independent contractor, or even playing pen and paper games with friends. Math is everywhere and no one should be left out.

I ask them why they want to learn math in order to setup a goal (this is super important). Sometimes It's an older adult trying to count calories for a diet and having trouble reading nutrition labels, other times it's a younger student falling behind in classes or failing tests.
Whatever the reason, having that reason gives us something practical to work towards and a goal that is provable once achieved.
Then, with a lot of patience and repition, we march toward that goal until we're there.
Also as a side note I like to confront the thing we're trying to achieve in person. If it's a test you failed, we will look over that test and face it down. If it's a food label you don't understand, we will pull it out and every other label in the kitchen until they're understood.
Just my girlfriend and a few others when I was younger. I also tutored in classical drawing a bit as well in college. They were roughly my age or younger and all wanted to learn for different personal reasons.
Make sure to have a nice, simple, achievable goal in mind! That could be:
-I want to pass my next 3 math tests
-I want to make my first program, "Hello, World"
-I want to read nutriton labels to lose 5 pounds
The point is that once you have this goal, now you know when your work paid off. You will pass that test, make that program, or lose that weight. And it will all be thanks to the work you put in learning math.
I just got a new work van and was driving my friends all around town just to show it off. It's 13 years old and not very expensive but I felt proud anyways and everyone had fun.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
"What is my goal?"
"How will I know when I achieved my goal?"
"How will things change for me for the better when I achieve that goal?"
