About Dabria

At Lotus Music, I offer in depth one on one lessons where students can customize their lessons and how they want to learn. I am currently located in Denton, Texas and specialize in Low Brass instruments and offer lessons on Trombone, Tuba, and Euphonium at any level, and also offer beginner Trumpet lessons. I have been performing on Low Brass instruments for over 10 years and have experience one year experience on Trumpet. I have two years of experience teaching private lessons and have extensive experience working with students with special needs and students at any age and any level.

I realized I wanted to teach at the ripe old age of 13 years old. I was in the 8th grade and, due to my family being so large, I was only able to do Band as my elective. I'm the oldest of 8 children and have been in a teaching/parenting type role for most of my life and I love it. I enjoy being able to pass on the things that I have learned and experienced to others and I especially enjoy passing on my love of music and inspiring others to continue loving music.

I am a current Liberal Arts- Music Major student at Texas Woman's University and have three years of Music Education knowledge. I also have two years of experience as a private lesson instructor.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I find it is very important to first assess them. How does the student warm up? What is their sound like? What is their technique like? What do they already know and what can I teach them? These are all questions I ask myself when first meeting with a student. From there I adjust my curriculum to the student's pace and gradually introduce new ideas and techniques while continuing to expand on what they already know. I especially enjoy adding in different books and study material to the curriculum to give the students something to work on and help them explore their studies more.

I have worked with students from the ages of 11 yers old to 18 years old. I was fortunate to be given multiple leadership opportunities in high school, such as Section Leader and Head Drum Major, and experienced tutoring younger students in the junior high school and younger students in my own high school band. Once I was in college I had the opportunity to work with two middle school trombone students, ages 11 and 13, who went on to continue playing and improving.

I would tell that student to be picky with who they hire. See if the approach the teacher takes to teaching you is really going to work for you; if it's not a good fit then it's time to find someone else. I would also advise the student to notify the teacher of any concerns right from the beginning. If you have any learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or health concerns of any kind, communicate that with the teacher from the start and it will allow the teacher to help you and make the learning process a whole lot more fun for the both of you.

Details

I currently charge $20 for an hour lesson at my home and charge $22 for an hour lesson at the student's home. I also offer 30 minute lessons for $18 for a lesson in my home and $20 for a 30 minute lesson at the student's home.
