About Mary
I enjoy teaching youth and adults how to be a better musician, whether you are just starting out or are looking to improve your skills. I believe music is for everyone and I have been helping students for 25 years be amazing musicians!
I have been a musician my entire life. I do not remember learning to read music and began piano lessons at age four. I began playing the trumpet in band at age 8 and french horn at age 11.
I attended a boarding school for the arts as a teenager and just fell in love with music. I took my first student professionally at age 20 and have loved teaching throughout my lifetime. I teach horn lessons, trumpet lessons and piano lessons and I would love to share with you my knowledge and expertise.
I am a professional classical musician who has been working in orchestras all over Southern California. I received my Masters in Music at University of Southern California in 1997.
I teach at local community colleges here in the Inland Empire for over 15 years and I also work with local schools to teach young students and enhance music education in all levels of players and students.

The first thing all music teachers should do is assess what skills the student brings to the lessons. Even if a student is a beginner, there are always skills that every person possesses to enhance and grow as a musician.
Once we have ascertained how to begin and where to begin, we work together to create musical lessons that will allow the student to work at skills and compositions that are fun and engaging.
I have worked with all levels of students, both youth and adult levels. I am a music professor at two local colleges so I work with adult students in that capacity, but I also teach band in a K-12 setting, so I see all range of musicians.
I believe that every personality needs a good fit. It is important to value the experience and education of the teacher you are inquiring about, but it is more important to work with another person to see if our philosophies and teaching and learning styles mesh.
I have had many years of working with and focusing on the needs of students, so I believe I have many tools in my toolbelt to work with musicians of all levels. I love interacting with my students, so I think a good fit with others is the ticket to success. Let's get started together to see the places we can go!
Recently, coming out of the pandemic, I am so thrilled to be sharing music with the public again. Band concerts, piano recitals, professional music concerts are all flowing again, and it is a real joy.

Details
My lessons are $30 per half hour, $45 per 45 minute lesson and $60 per hour if the student comes to my home. Prices will be adjusted for travel.
