We meet for the first lesson. I ask why the student enjoys playing the flute. We discuss the curriculum, how the studio works, and hand out lesson material. Then I have the student play for me so I can determine where they are and what they need to practice. For a first time beginner, we first discuss instrument care, then hand position. We then take off the head joint and focus on learning to produce a sound.
