About Marina
Marina Konishi Comfort teaches private lessons. She graduated from the University of Louisville in December of 2014 with a Bachelor Degree in Violin Performance under the guidance of Mrs. Brittany MacWilliams. She previously did all of her musical studies in Switzerland with Mrs. Yolande Leroy, protégée of famous violinist Tibor Varga at the Conservatoire Cantonal de Sion. Marina attended the Gymnase Auguste Piccard in Lausanne, a special high school for gifted musicians, then went on to study at the Conservatoire de Lausanne Haute Ecole de Musique, a professional conservatory, while attending her last year of high school. She has had the privilege of performing as a soloist in Romania and Switzerland, as well as to tour Costa Rica with the University of Louisville Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Prof. Kimcherie Lloyd. Marina participated in masterclasses with Prof. Gyula Stuller in Switzerland and France. She has also studied extensively with Prof. Kurt Sassmannshaus by participating in masterclasses in Germany, China, Italy and the United States. Her pedagogical skills are acquired from learning the Sassmannshaus method from both Prof. Sassmannshaus and Mrs. Brittany MacWilliams. Marina incorporates different aspects of her European musical education into her teaching. She is passionate about teaching violin, desiring her students to be proficient and skilled violinists and have great enjoyment in learning to play.
I started teaching as a college student, and fell passionately in love with it! I’ve been teaching for 7 years and have developed a system that balances proper technical ability to play, being able to read music and have knowledge of music theory, as well as enjoyment of learning violin!
I grew up in Switzerland, and I’ve gotten a European background in classical violin. I started when I was six and never stopped! I’ve been playing for over 20 years, and I have a Bachelors degree in Violin Performance from the University of Louisville, KY.

I like to assess their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to learning so that I can better cater my teaching style based on their needs. I usually do an initial assessment at the first lesson while I teach them their first lesson. I offer a free trial lesson, so make sure to shoot me a request so we can see whether or not we’re a good match!
I have worked with children starting at age 4 through college years - students of many levels! I also teach adult students of all ages.
Make sure that the teacher is able to offer you balance. It’s important to not just be able to play violin, but play it well. And to be able to further enjoy music note reading is extremely important. This will allow the student to continue learning on their own. Not every teacher is the perfect fit for every student, so trial lessons can be helpful before deciding who to choose!

Ms. Marina is such a nice and funny person and is such a great violin player and teacher. Whenever I have any problems with learning any new music, I can take it to her and she'll help me through it. She is able to measure my level of skill and gives me pieces that I can play, but are still a bit difficult. In that way, I can grow and develop new skills with different pieces of music. I feel like I'm growing every year thanks to Ms. Marina. Ms. Marina helps me when I have audition pieces as well, such as for LYO and All state. Thanks to her help, I was able to get in to whatever I auditioned for. Also, Ms. Marina is very flexible and consistent with time and lessons. If I have to miss a lesson because I'm sick or if she has to miss a lesson because she is sick, then she'll find a way to fit a makeup lesson in. Also, she's very consistent with lessons. Every week at the same time, unless something comes up.
Marina is very professional and personal in every aspect of giving violin lessons. Her care is expressed in her marking on homework notebooks, music sheets and hands-on repetitions. She also holds her pupils accountable to these lessons by following up on assigned applications such as home practices and recitals. I highly recommend her to/for any level of violin lessons!
Marina has a very encouraging way with my son. She smiles a lot. She shows an interest in him. She has high expectations but communicates them in a friendly, firm way, helping him get there. He wants to do well for her. She also communicates effectively with me what she needs from me on issues such as scheduling and helping him practice at home. I’m very thankful to have landed such an inspiring violin instructor for my son.
Marina is an excellent Violin teacher. My daughter has been taking lessons from her for 3 years and she has improved tremendously! She used to take group lessons but has learned so much more with private lessons. Marina is great with kids and knows how to relate and motivate them. I highly recommend her!
Marina is a very kind and patient instructor who works well with my adolescent son who often gets distracted. She knows just what to do to get him motivated and to make goals that he can meet. Over the last 4 years, she has become a part of our family and Miles has become a much better violin player. Highly recommend Marina for any level of student wanting to take up violin.
Marina is extremely thorough. She is patient with her students and bring out the best in them. Our daughter has been with Marina for four years and she continues to improve with each lesson. Under Marina's guidance, we have seen our daughter's confidence grow. We feel blessed to have found a violin instructor as talented and caring as Marina!
It has been great having Marina as my son’s violin teacher. She’s very patient with him. She’s a new generation of music teacher. She’s approachable and starts each lesson with a smile. She gets down to business but is able to laugh with the kids. She’s been great about working from the lesson book but also incorporating a song or two that my child connects to. My son has grown as a musician under her direction.
She’s very knowledgeable about her instrument! My 7 year old loves the time she gets with Marina and looks forward to her lesson every week.
