About Nolan

Nolan (clarinet/saxophone) has been teaching for numerous years. The lessons are meant to encourage clarinet and saxophone study through private lessons, ensembles, and studio classes. Students will develop a lifelong appreciation for music and the arts. He has had many students successfully audition for and attend PMEA All-State and NAfME All-Eastern Honors Bands and Orchestras. He has also had students go on to study music collegiately at Carnegie Mellon University, Penn State Univeristy, Slippery Rock University, and Seton Hill University.

Nolan holds Master's and Advanced Music Studies Degrees in music performance from Carnegie Mellon University. While at Carnegie Mellon, Nolan was a member of the National Music Honor Society Pi Kappa Lambda, Theta Xi chapter. He is also a 2012 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Duquesne University with a Bachelor's Degree in music performance. While at Duquesne, he was a winner of the 2010 Duquesne University Symphony Concerto Competition and 2012 Charles Bruno Wind Symphony Concerto Competition. He is also a scholarship winner of the 2008 Blackwood Theater Organ Society, 2012 Tuesday Musical Club. Nolan has substituted numerous times with the Orchestras of Charleston (SC), South Florida, Albany (NY), Wheeling, Westmoreland, and Johnstown. He is the woodwind coordinator for the PYCO youth orchestra, conducts multiple clarinet ensembles for his students, and maintains a large private teaching studio of over 50 weekly students.

I have been teaching for many years and enjoy passing on my passion for music. The best part of teaching is seeing students not only grow and improve as performers, but most importantly love music.

While I was in grad school, a local music store needed a teacher. Immediately, I fell in love with teaching and decided to grow my studio.

I have a Masters Degree in Music Performance from Carnegie Mellon Univeristy.

About the lesson

I cater my lessons to the students needs and desires. Especially for younger students, I always encourage them to choose fun songs they want to learn. For all students, I have them get books with excercises, duets to play with me, and solo pieces. Every year I do a recital for my students to build confidence through public performances.
