About Babs

As a personal tutor I provide experience and guidance to those who are struggling to learn the fine art of pastel landscape painting or oil portraiture. I have a private home studio and only tutor one-three students at a time so you don't have to wait. Your pace is determined by your understanding of the process.

I love that moment when my frustrated art student suddenly 'gets it' and the joy of accomplishment with their first entry in an art show. The self esteem that comes from doing the hard work to get them there.

I've always learned more from a practicing artist than from a class environment. I love watching another artist work things out to make their project successful. I teach about the process of painting, the planning, the drawing and what makes a successful painting.

I studied life drawing at Kent State in Ohio and studied portrait and skulpting with Csaba Kurr

I worked as a catalog developer and webmaster for a local company for 6 years before my retirement. I used Adobe Creative Suite and this included Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign programs.

In my previous job I was assistant art teacher for grades 1 through 12 at a local Christian School. Preparing lessons for such a wide range of students prepared me to understand the way people learn to be creative and I really enjoyed working with young adults. Teenages are the free spirits that inspire my art.

About the lesson

Beginners classes, only 1-3 adult students $20 (2 days a week

Adults Intermediate class, 2x month, 3 students per class. Pastels and oil painting. Still-life and landscape.
$15 (2x month)

* Supplies not included

Optional: Portrait drawing and painting with model $20 once a month.

I have worked on an individual level with adults who want to learn how and what to buy to reach their goals as an artist.

There is a lot of pleasure in painting if you know what you are doing but there is also much frustration if you don't understand the right way and have the right tools to work with. I can help you to navigate through the unknown.
