About Ella

Starting with the fundamentals and elements of design I challenge my students to get creative when working from life. Together we will complete fun projects that not only build up your knowledge of art history, color theory and the materials used but also help you to grow your skills as an individual artist. Everyone has their own style, their own voice in art. My job is help you sharpen and nurture your skills so that your work is not only aesthetically interesting but is built upon a solid foundation and understanding.

Studying the art of painting around the world these past 15 years has given me an appreciation and understanding of a language that is universal at its core. Art has been my life long passion. I studied graphic design at Art and Design Highschool, taking AP drawing at the School of Visual Arts. As a graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology, majoring in fine arts, I have been given beautiful opportunities to study under many masters. Studying fresco in Florence Italy, modern art and sculpture in Paris France, observing Kabbalahist artists in Tzefat Israel, painting the ocean in Oaxaca Mexico and admiring the countryside of Spain have all greatly influenced my own work. Each culture is so rich and full of history, I'm constantly learning new methods and tricks to incorporate into my own painting practices. My favorite thing above all though is being able to share these techniques with my students, watching them learn and then use them to their own advantages. Nothing is more satisfying than watching my students work blossom.

About the lesson

Before taking on a student I prefer to talk to them and gauge what their experience is, asking for samples of their work in a portfolio comprised of 8-10 images. We will also discuss what the the students main interest for taking lessons is that way each lesson is tailored to the students needs. We move at your pace. Be prepared to complete light homework assignments to practice in between sessions.

Due to COVID-19 all lessons are video/online. Most classes last about 60-90 minutes. Any classes longer than 90 minutes will be subject to price increase.
