About Robin

Being a self taught artist since i was 10 yrs old. This has given me the freedom to explore and discover forms and master color in my own unique methods and techniques. I want to share these skills with others and help others discover their own unique style through painting.

I volunteered at a local children's museum in Winchester that allowed me to plan and implement fun art projects for young children usually between ages 4 to 9.

I worked for a local Head Start organization for preschool aged children where I was able to plan and implement fun art exercises for the kids.

i have assisted teens and adults individually who had a desire to paint and or draw. From amatuer art skills, and others were complete beginners.

I studied on my own since I was 10. I watched Bob Ross, The Joy of Painting on PBS. I studied Norman Rockwell.

I never gave up and practiced relentlessly!

About the lesson

It depends on what the student desires and what goals the student wishes to acheive.

For example; If a student wants to learn to paint a still life , I would ask the student to pick 3 to 4 favorite items that compliment each other. We would set up a table and arrange the items.

We would begin our process discussing shape of each object and how they relate to each other visually .

We would create a series of sketches , just simple line drawings to lay out format of the painting.

We would determine the direction of our light source and how the light is bouncing off of each item as well as where the shadows are being cast from each item..

I would teach the student the proper sketching techniques such as holding the pencil and shading methods for shadows and using other tools for highlighting...

i would use a separate paper or canvas and i would introduce 2 colors, black and white paint process which shows how to create mutiple shades of grey to establish value and make an object look 3 demensional

This is just a sample of steps i would take to teach a beginner. This is more a fine art traditional example. There are also other methods that are whimsical, fun, which creates a different style such as impressionist or less realism. I will offer a variety of samples of each style and the student can decide.

I have worked with young children from ages 4-9

teens from 12-18

adults from 45-78

Make sure they love what they are doing!

Make sure the teacher is patient and is there to do a service to making sure the student is accomplishing their artistic goals.

Good Communication is a plus!

Make sure they make learning Art fun!!!

I love when children and adults light up when they see a table full of fresh art supplies and when you sit down with them and give them some structured direction, not rules, there are no rules in Art. There are no mistakes, just free play with color and lines .

They always surprise themselves when they have accomplished certain techniques such as mixing colors to make other colors, Learning how to paint shadows using other colors than black. Learning how to draw what you see, Not what you think you see. Making objects appear 3D.Every step of the artistic journey is very satisfying and unique for each person.

Costs for Lessons varies depending on difficulty of project

the maximum I will charge is about $65 hour.

However,

my cost is $50/ hour and will ask the client provide their own supplies from a list I will provide for you.
