About Audrey

I've been an online medical transcription/medical terminology instructor since 2011. I have also owned my own transcription service since 1989. I have an extensive background in writing materials for medical courses as well as being a freelance online writer. I have great expertise in developing individualized learning materials for learners that are trying to learn specifics blocks of material and am adept at understanding unique learning styles. I am a certified medical transcriptionist (CHDS) but have worked as an online instructor full-time since 2011 as well as teaching in a bricks-and-mortar environment.

(concealed information)

As a medical editor for the people who worked for me, I found it helpful to create materials for the people doing transcription as it helped them to learn faster and retain more.  It was a natural slide then into online instructing in the medical field.

I have actually "taught" since 1989 as the medical transcription business that I owned and operated required me to review my contractors' work and give them feedback on all that they did.  I then became an official online instructor in medical terminology and medical transcription in 2011, where I was responsible for grading, developing educational materials, chatting online and/or making phone calls to assist students in learning and/or answering questions.  I love helping a student understand something that he or she was previously struggling with!

I get to know the student and ask questions regarding their learning style.  I then ask what areas they are struggling in and develop individualized methods or materials to help the student understand and retain that material.  We all learn differently and the most important thing is knowing how we learn and how best we can absorb what we are trying to learn.

I have worked with all nationalities of students and all age groups.  I also have a grandson and have developed many educational materials for him!

Be sure that the instructor understands how you learn best.  The way that I learn may not be the way that you learn and if someone is targeting the wrong method, you will find that you still struggle.  In today's world, there are SO many ways that we can learn things - and not all of them are painful!

I have several fond memories of students I worked with online who were very discouraged trying to learn such a vast subject as medical terminology/transcription.  When I could direct them to resources and/or create work materials for them to practice on or give a presentation, I felt as if I was at the top of the world.  Their joy and appreciation at being able to learn something they thought was impossible made my day every time!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is your way of learning? Is it auditory or visual?
What areas do you have trouble in regarding retention?
Do you try and cram all the information into long, drawn-out sessions or do you do short bursts of learning?
Do you find that doing exercises or repetitive things like matching helpful?
Have you considered trying educational games as a way to help you learn and retain?
