About Mark

I have a PhD in philosophy and have taught and tutored for over twenty years. I have overwhelming support from my students over the years, which has been evidenced in personal emails and formal student evaluations of my classes and my instruction. Most of all, I let students know that I understand them first and foremost as a person who is trying to learn and treat them as a person.

What I enjoy most is when a student encounters a new idea that enlightens, encourages, or inspires them and I can witness and be a part of their growth. This is the true reward of tutoring and teaching.

I was originally a teaching assistant while a grad student in the PhD program in philosophy at Temple University.

I have a BA in economics from The University of Pittsburgh and a PhD in philosophy from Temple University. I have taught philosophy to over a thousand students and individually tutored dozens of them over the course of the past 20+ years.

About the lesson

When I first work individually with a student, I ask about their preferred method of learning, e.g., visual (images), auditory (sound/music), linguistic (listening/reading), physical (doing). I try to assess their personality type as well. I use this information to determine the most effective method for helping a student learn quickly and effectively.

I have worked with all levels of intellectual ability and aptitude. I have taught at a number of different institutions of higher education including some with a diverse student body.

Consider a tutor's background and educational training when looking for a philosophy tutor. Those grounded in a formal education in philosophy will be best able to offer insight on traditional philosophical topics that arise in college courses in philosophy.

My most recent fond memory is spending time with my family over the Christmas season. I and my brother and sisters and their families come together every year at my parents' to celebrate the holiday season with Christmas cheer.
