I am Detroit trained and schooled musician and I am here to help you if: - You are an adult beginner at the piano. - You have a child that is ready start lessons. - You would like to learn traditional Theory and Harmony. - You have had some experience in lessons and are looking to make music more creatively or are looking to explore different styles. - You would like to learn to read and write Chord Charts and Lead Sheets. - You are preparing for a Performance, Audition, or Recording Session. - You need help in a group or rock band setting as a player or band leader. - You want to learn to Improvise (what to do when they turn to you and say: “Take it away!”). My experience? I am a “child of pop” who studied jazz and has worked in about every style there is including Country, Electronic Music, and Contemporary Christian (as Director of Worship Arts). I’ve owned and operated studios in Michigan and in Texas and now offer instruction exclusively online. #WelcomeToTheFuture. I recently converted all of my students to online and we are having great success. Most appreciate the convenience and the efficiency. The focus easily rivals in-studio lessons.

Music is a gift we share. We learn, we play...for ourselves, then for others. Teaching for me is a part of that sharing.

I was a student of Jazz at Wayne State University and studied directly under Detroit/Motown legends Matt Michaels and David Van De Pitte. I have worked for decades as a professional musician in the Detroit area (performing in just about every style). I have experience in the studio, as a Band Leader, as a Musical Director, as a Director of Worship Arts and (of course) as a private instructor.

About the lesson

My objective for a new student is to have them leave the session confident that I will do my best to help them play their instrument comfortably and correctly.

All ages. All levels. All styles.

The student-teacher relationship is just that: a relationship. It should bring an instructor great joy to partner with you (or your child) as you pursue musicianship. He should not only be your guide and support, but your biggest fan! There is no single method that works best for all students. That is why the relationship is important. When available, take advantage of a free consultation or a trial lesson.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
You will get out of your studies what you put in to them. Lessons begin at your weekly half-hour session and continue through the remaining 335 half-hours of the week. Your home study/practice doesn't have to be a legalistic '30-minutes-a-day', but be ready to develop a weekly routine. A good instructor will give you a weekly assignment that builds on your work. Every task, however small, is a stepping stone in developing your musicianship.

Details

Lessons are weekly, half-hour sessions. There is no enrollment fee, no registration fee and no long-term contract. Lessons are month-to-month and tuition is paid monthly.
