About Edward

There is nothing more fulfilling then a student reaching that moment when they have truly grasped a concept. Showing them that they are capable of acheiveing a goal is a huge step in a student's academic career. Teaching has always been a passion of mine and having the ability to work one-to-one enables me to help with the areas that a child has not yet mastered. Giving a child diverse and current examples will help them grasp important content and concepts within their academics. I will help students achieve their goals by adapting to their learning styles. You're an auditory learner? Let's talk. You're a visual learner? Let's look at vivid examples that help you understand. My teaching and paraprofessional career spans 5 years. I started student teaching at Argo Community Highschool in 2015. I moved on and worked at Komarek Elementary as a paraprofessional with students ranging from the ages of 6-14. I substituted on a regular basis as well while working in North Riverside, Illinois. Currently, I work with at risk Chicago youth at an alternative school, ages ranging from 14-21. I currently teach Civics and United States History, spanning a total of 6 periods. I am a certified teacher with my Professional Educators License in Illinois, focusing on Secondary teaching with an endorsement in middle school academics. I am eager to assist students who are motivated to work hard, learn and ease their academic frustration.

The thing I enjoy most about my work is that I get to help students who feel like they will never understand a concept. When I was a young student, I struggled with some of the same concepts that current children do. I like to give students multiple examples and methods of assessing and solving an issue. I use past and current methods to help students become academically engaged by using real world examples as a comparison. It's all about relatability, if a student has an example that is rea and current to them, it will help ease the understanding.

I always had a passion for teaching since I was young.  Being able to help other people is something I take pride in.  A personal friend, who I went to school with really helped push me into my field.  We always worked together and I would always help her when she was struggling with an subject.  She always told me she appreciated my help and patience when assisting her.  My passion for helping and their extra push really helped me move into my career that I love.

My education consists of a B.S from Northern Illinois University and my educators license from Northeastern Illinois University in 2015-2016.  I have worked one-to-one as a paraprofessional with general and special education students, providing modified and accommodated plans specific to those students.  I have also had over 90+ hours of professional development in the areas of US History, Civics and Social Emotional Learning.

I will give the student a learning questionnaire to determine what is the best course for engaging them academically.  The survey determines if the student is a auditory, visual or kinesthetic learner.  I also converse with students to see their interests and use those to help with the learning process.

I have worked with all ranges of students from general education students, special education students and at risk youth ages 6-21.

Look for a teacher who is willing to learn about you and your learning styles to benefit you the most.  A teacher who uses current, relatable topics and examples to help you learn.  You are the learner, let them know what works for you acknowledging your strengths and areas of improvement.

Working closely with a student who struggled with annotating readings.  I helped the student learn strategies for summarizing long texts and pulling out the important context to answer an essential question.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What areas do I need help with the most?  What are my areas of strength?  What kind of learner am I?  What are my academic goals? Personal goals?  Short and long term goals?
