About Colman

Hey all, my name is Colman and I am here to make learning Science Easy. It's already a lot of fun but completely understanding and then remembering are not always the easiest things to do. I like to develop a unique method catered for each student to provide the perfect teaching style so that the learning style is simple and effective.

I attended Eckerd College and majored in Environmental Education with minors in both Human Development and Philosophy. I have been working with kids from ages 10-16 for almost eight years now and tutored for 1 year in College.

My time as a Camp Counselor was a major influence on my decisions. I grew up growing at a camp and worked there for a few summers and then clocked in over 10,000 off-season volunteer hours at an outdoor camp in Wisconsin. I was able to work with and teach adults and children of all ages. It was during that time I decided that I knew what I wanted to do.

My initial major in college was Environmental Sciences but with my credits in Human Development and Philosophy I was able to make it 'Environmental Education'. My desire to teach made it an easy decision to commit to that field and one of my long term goals is to open an alternative learning school. I was a tutor in high school and did one year of Environmental Science tutoring in college.

About the lesson

I like to start with a short meeting with both the parents and the student separately. I believe open communication is important and I want to hear about the goals and expectations that everyone has for our sessions. Figuring out what, where and why we need a little extra help allows me to better understand the student so I can create the perfect curriculum. I also take extensive notes during each session that I make available to all parents or guardians who care to review our work.

Ultimately, I am here to improve the success of my students and am not limited to any personal preferences or processes. If there are ever any preferred directions or practices that you want me to follow please let me know and I will gladly accomodate.

I have a lot of experience with children ages 10-16 and have worked with a Special-Education* program for 2 years.

Find a Science teacher who enjoys Science more than teaching...The Sciences help us understand the way our universe works and that is Knowledge to be shared..not simply taught and tested on.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what you know the most about. Think about how you learned how to do it and what you enjoyed about that process. How did you get better and how can you make a similar connection to what you need help with now? You dont need to have a full answer to your problems but you can express what already works for you and then figure it out together.
