About Amanda
Hi! My name is Amanda, and I specialize in tutoring Social, Abnormal, and Criminal (Forensic) Psychology, as well as scientific writing. I use real world examples and case studies to help students make sense of scientific concepts and terminology, and I love being able to develop others' curiosity and passion for behavioral sciences.
I have more than 5 years' experience in my field, and have tutored my high school, undergraduate, and graduate student peers. I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in the subject of Psychology in 2018, and most recently completed my Master of Science degree in the field of Forensic Psychology in 2019.
In addition to my passion for the field of psychology, I excel at scientific writing, and can offer guidance to those developing research studies and materials (including ethics proposal forms, informed consent forms, etc.), writing research summaries, and more.
I look forward to working with you.
I got started teaching when I was in college. I formed study groups with my peers and learned class and assignment material by teaching and explaining key concepts and terms to my peers. When I realized I retained material and kept current on information by teaching, I began helping students in my classes who were struggling, and fell in love with the idea of always learning more by being able to help others.
I graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2018 with a self-designed Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychological Profiling, which combined Psychology, Anthropology, and Sociology classes to build on a curriculum that would give me an advantage in the field of Forensic Psychology.
I went on to complete my Master of Science degree at Bournemouth University, graduating in 2019 with an MS degree in Forensic Psychology.

I like to get to know students by introducing myself and asking questions about how the student learns best and what they hope to get from tutoring sessions.
I begin tutoring sessions by asking students what was covered in class and what information they were able to take away and understand. I then ask students to identify concepts or terminology that they did not understand, or that they would like more information on. I talk through those concepts with my student, and provide real world examples and case studies for the student to review. I check in with students as we go over new concepts, making sure that they are able think through problems and understand new material as it is presented.
I always make it clear that any and all questions are welcome at any time during my sessions with students, and am always happy to answer any questions that do come up. I aim to make tutoring sessions laid back, fun, and informational in ways that students can optimize their success. I also ensure that students are able to think through new concepts independently before the session is complete, so that way students can feel confident in their abilities to work through problems and think critically.
I have worked with high school, undergraduate college and graduate school students.
Tutoring shouldn't be something you dread. It should be engaging, and it should be a tool you can use to help you get the most out of taught material.
With that being said, you should have an idea of how you learn best. Use your learning style to find a tutor who can understand how you learn and work with you (rather than talk "at" you).
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What information do I know?
What information still seems foreign to me?
Can I make sense of this concept/term/topic on my own?
What is my learning style?
