About Carl

While FBMAS teaches both Traditional and Eclectic martial arts, we focus more on the process of learning so that our students can go just about anywhere to reach their individually-motivated goals. Rest assured that very few of our Westernized martial arts schools meet the old-school (Asian) Masters' criteria of being "genuine", so it is rather laughably ironic when someone makes a statement that ANY particular art is "not real". That said, we do place importance on the preservation of some traditions which serve to keep us mindful of just what we are doing: learning to preserve life, which may entail endangering that of our assailant(s) by whatever means we have at hand, "Real" or not. A somewhat wise man once said, "Just because you don't see the wall of bricks ahead of you does not mean you will defeat it by discounting it is on the other side of a veil you are running head-first into."

We have over 36 years martial arts background, including an 20+ teaching, officially.

About the lesson

For Semi-Private training (which is pretty much Private lessons that may or may not include other persons in your sessions), students generally come as scheduled. Starting with basics training, the syllabus is top heavy. Students are expected to take it seriously enough that they do their private practice so that we can focus on adding to the base of their growing knowledge under the tutelage of FBMAS. Rank is a side-effect rather than the goal, ideally.

I have personally taught ages as young as five, and as old as a young 60+.

Be clear about why you want to train, and make sure you find a teacher who appreciates where you are trying to go. Otherwise, you may start off trying to walk in two different directions, and that spells a very divided future that benefits neither you nor the martial family you are enjoining.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. How do I envision my training will be?

2. How do I intend to use my training?

3. What is my longterm picture with regards to martial arts?

4. Do I want to just learn some cool stuff, or actually understand what makes stuff cool (or cooler than I might think?)

5. Can I commit to a minimum of one session per week for a long period of time? perhaps 6 months or a year, at least?

Details

For standard program (where students come to me), $35 monthly membership without contractual obligation, plus $10 per session attended. For instance, if student comes to one class at the middle of the month, it's $35 + 10 for that session, then $10 per session within the same month. If student shows up at last session of month, only, it's $35 + 10 for that session; and then the next month brings the next $35 monthly membership fee. If you miss the entire month, you pay nothing for that month.
