About Julie

I love teaching people of all ages how to sew. Once you learn a few skills, you can make anything! It's so rewarding!

I enjoy watching my students build upon their sewing skills and blossoming in their new skills!

Sewing is my passion. It's not being taught in schools anymore and it's such an important skill to learn. I want to fill the gap and teach as many people as I can.

My mother taught me how to sew at a very young age. She sewed the majority of my clothes while I was a child then she made my graduation dress, prom dress, and wedding dress!

About the lesson

I find out if my student has any prior sewing experience and build upon those skills or start from the very beginning. The student learns at their own pace and chooses the projects they want to sew with my guidance. I provide everything except the fabric and notions (thread, zippers, etc)

I have worked with children as young as 6 and as old as women in their 70's!

A sewing teacher must have patience and allow a student to go at their own pace. The teacher should have least intermediate skills. Some teachers dictate what the student sees, I think the student should be able to choose within reason. However, students new to sewing will need to learn using basic projects the teacher chooses in order to master basic skills.

Sewing camp! Sewing camp is a blast! It was for one week and we sewed anywhere between 3-5 projects depending on the speed of the child.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about the kinds of things they would ultimately like to sew but be patient with the process to learning the sewing skills necessary so they don't get discouraged. Does the student need to start from the very beginning or build on previous skills.

Details

I charge $15 per 1 hour lesson and offer discounts for 2 people. For example, 2 children or mother and daughter would be $25 instead of $30. Keep in mind I provide everything except the fabric and notions (thread, zippers, etc)
