About Halie

I have 17 years of vocal performance experience, beginning with my first vocal competition at age 6. Singing is a huge part of what makes me, me! I believe that the voice is a powerful way to present and express yourself to the world.

I have a Bachelor's Degree and certification in music therapy with a vocal performance focus from the University of Louisville School of Music. As a music therapist, I am trained in making music accessible (aka, everyone can sing!) With my students, I will use an individualized approach that addresses each student's specific goals; whether that be winning a competition, nailing an audition, or finally hitting the high notes in their favorite Beyonce song! By focusing on both vocal technique and self-expression, together my students and I will discover how to sing in a way that makes them feel accomplished and fulfilled.

My other qualifications include: 5 years of classical and contemporary vocal training, multiple recording experiences, regional, state, and national vocal competition participations and awards, venue performances in Nashville, TN, 2 years musical theatre experience, 3 years training and performing with UofL's Collegiate Choral honor's choir.

Whatever your singing style and goals, I've probably done it and can help you do it too ;)

I got started teaching through my work as a music therapist. I frequently lead therapeutic choirs and provide music lessons to my clients and patients.

About the lesson

My process begins by getting to know my students. In order to give the best individualized experience I can, I want to know your favorite genres, your goals, your fears about singing, and more!

Next, you will sing me a prepared song (something you know well and enjoy singing!) and I will lead you through some vocal exercises to determine your vocal part (soprano, tenor, etc.), your range, and your strengths and weaknesses.

Finally, we will decide together a plan for lessons. Taking into consideration your goals, skill level, schedule, and finances, we will decide the frequency and lenght of lessons.

I have typically worked with children aged 8-18 with Beginner-Intermediate skill levels. I have also worked with older adults in group settings.

Choose a teacher who's approach matches your learning style. Consider how you learn best, and ask the teacher questions about their teaching style!

Recently in my previous position, I worked with an older lady who was receiving music therapy while under-going weekly chemo-therapy treatments. She loved music and it was a great distraction from her treatments. During her appointments, I would provide her with ukulele lessons, teaching her basic chord structures and songs. I was lucky to be able to be present at her last treatment, where she thanked the doctors, nurses, and therapists with a performance of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow!"
