About Maria

I have been designing and making jewelry for over ten years. My goal is to stay ahead of trends and to bring new ideas to jewelry. I have taught a handful of students in person as well as on Skype. Many of my early pieces of jewelry were showcased in a gallery showing in Downtown Dallas in December of 2008 that was organized by Third Rail Management & The Davis Bldg Management. I am an artistic person by nature and tend to lean towards an artistic expression in my work, but I can teach basic jewelry making technique as well as intricate bead weaving and wire wrapping. I don't do embroidery of any kind but may in the future. I would love to help you reach your goals in jewelry design so let's get started! I've been making jewelry for over ten years. Self taught via countless books and tutorials as well as trial and error over time.

About the lesson

First I ask questions to find out what the student is wanting to get out of these lessons and if they have any prior experience making or designing jewelry. From there I can tailor lessons to work best for the student. Depending on mileage and available times I'm able to travel to the student as well as have student meet at my office in my home or do lessons via Skype. Each person learns differently so I do try my best to be sure I've tuned in to that with my student and taken my time to be sure they really understand.

My first student went ahead and started her own jewelry making business complete with website and she is still going strong today.

Look online and gather ideas and photos of what it is you're interested in learning. There are so many amazing jewelry styles and techniques out there from metal work to clay beads and wire weaving as well as soldering and fusing or even chainmaille. Passion for the skill is a must have in my opinion. A teacher with a wide range of knowledge and years of experience also are good things to look for.

My community of Mt. Vernon, TX has really blown my mind with their commitment to our students and underprivileged and at risk families. The community gathers at our courthouse every Tuesday at noon to pray together regardless of denomination or religious beliefs. An outpouring of love from such a wonderful community is really changing lives and touching people spiritually. It's amazing to see God's love at work through us!

Details

$25 per hour. I usually am able to provide lesson supplies and materials. If traveling to student I try to keep it under 25 miles from 75480. I charge an extra $6.50 for that.
