About Leon

I teach in what I call a “human compatible” way, so that learning to sing and speak skillfully and expressively is self-fulfilling and enjoyable. I am deeply knowledgeable about how voices are “made” and how they are “played” but I adapt any explanations I give to the age and interests of the people with whom I work. I help people of most ages sing any musical style of their choosing. I’m a member of: National Association of Teachers of Singing and Pan American Vocology Association and VoiceCare Network.

Being a friendly "people person," the most fulfilling moments in my work are when singers and speakers realize that they have just accomplished breakthroughs in their vocal and expressive abilities--the moments when they "get it."

Public school choral director (1962) giving private voice lessons to students.

Doctor of Education degree (Ed.D.) in vocal music education, University of Illinois.

Many years of private voice study in singing and speaking. Primary teachers have been Oren Brown (Juilliard School) and Charles Nelson (Voice Institute of West Texas).

Founder (1982) and Founding Faculty (now retired) of the VoiceCare Network, Collegeville, Minnesota.

Principal author and co-editor of Bodymind and Voice: Foundations of Voice Education, an 18-author "encyclopedia" of voice knowledge and practice, published by the VoiceCare Network and the National Center for Voice and Speech.

About the lesson

Interview and fun voice explorations to set goals to accomplish.

All "levels" of voice education including people who believed that they couldn not sing at all (100% success), to beginning, intermediate, and advanced singers, to college voice majors, to professional singers. Also high school speech contestants and amateur to professional actors, lawyers, clergy, salespersons, political candidates, etc.
