About Philip
My students regularly qualify for the Alaska All-State Band, and the state Solo & Ensemble Festival. Several have gone on to major in music in college and/or received music scholarships on their instrument.
I took private lessons on several instruments starting at age 6. I settled on tuba in 8th grade and began a journey go mastery. I enjoy working with students and helping them learn to love their instrument and play it well!
I hold a bachelors degree in music education from the University of Georgia (2004), a masters degree from the American Band College (2010), and have taught band in the Anchorage School District since 2005.

I will typically have students bring music they have been working on, and play for me so that I can get a baseline of their current ability. I will then recommend books and exercises for them based on their skills.

Usual charge is $30 for a half-hour in-person lesson, $25 for a half-hour online lesson (via Zoom). Other rates are determined on an individual basis.
