About Richard

I am a professional trumpeter that performs regularly throughout Northern California. I have over 20 years of teaching experience and currently teach trumpet at UC Santa Cruz, Santa Clara University, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College, and my own private studios in Santa Cruz and Palo Alto. My school age students are frequently selected for All-State and many participate in youth orchestra programs. I've had several students go on to the top conservatory and university programs in the country.

My teaching focuses on the basics sound production and technique, striving to play efficiently. I guide students through a curriculum that develops skill in a progressive way. Although I am a classical musician, I teach students interested in all genres who want to increase their performance level.

I hold a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Maryland, a Masters of Music from Yale School of Music, and a Bachelors of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I also received further training while spending a year on a music fellowship in Paris. I've been fortunate to study with some of the top trumpeters in the world and that is the main influence on my teaching style.
