About Morgan

Music teaching has always been an important part of my life. I have gravitated towards teaching positions from Highschool to my masters degree at The Juilliard school and my career in cello perfromance.

I attended Los Angeles County High School for the Arts where I became the leader of the orchestra cello section. As leader, I ran cello section rehearsals, small group tutoring sessions, as well as teaching cello privately. I continued pursuing music at the college level where I also taught privately and helped tutor my colleagues and friends. I have always incorporated teaching into my lecture performances and masterclasses and have a strong interest in trying to get the audience to connect to concepts around my masters degree focus, Historical Performance.

While music performance has been my main goal, I have always been interested in the methodology behind teaching and how to be more clear and effective. I make an effort to try and take high level and technical concepts and package them in a way that people without music degrees can understand and retain. my teaching style is all about Consistency, use of educational strategies, and setting attainable goals.

I have my Batchelors degree from Depaul university in cello performance and my masters degree from the Juilliard school where I was a full tuition member of the Historical Perfromance program.

I started teaching in High school when one of my mother's friends asked me to teach her 7 year old son cello. It was a challenge for me, but I asked my mentors for some advice and some basic method books and we ended up having a great time learning the cello.

I have taught cello lessons for over 15 years and have had a lot of experience with many different age levels and experience levels.

I have my masters degree in cello perfromance and have taken many pedagogy courses throughout my education.

I belive the best teachers are the ones who keep teaching themselves. I try and chalenge myself every time I pick up the cello to have better technque and to be more mindful of what I am doing so I can grow as a player and a teacher.

About the lesson

I like to start off with some basic scale work and a little conversation t get to know each other. Once I have seen the students technique in action and I have an idea of how much practice time the student can fit into their life, I like to start a plan with some exercises and some music that fits the students playing level.

I have worked with every kind of student you can imagine. From 5 year old children to 65 year old adults.

I would find someone who keeps you engaged in the learning process and obviously cares about your success as a player.
