About Sean
I am a violin tutor with over 8 years of teaching experience and an Associate of Music in String Performance with a Violin focus. I enjoy helping students explore the rich sounds and traditions of folk violin from different cultures. My teaching combines technical skills with the creativity and expression found in traditional music.
I specialize in Nordic folk violin styles such as Norwegian Fiddle, Swedish Fiddle, and Klezmer. I teach ornamentation, rhythmic bowing patterns, and ear-based learning techniques to help students develop a deeper connection with the music. I believe learning through traditional pieces helps students build confidence and musical understanding.
My lessons include folk jam tracks, drone tuners, and repertoire-based instruction to improve timing, tone, and listening skills. I encourage students to explore different melodies and create their own interpretations. One student improved their rhythm and confidence by practicing traditional fiddle patterns and playing along with folk recordings.
I welcome beginners and experienced players who want to discover new musical traditions. My goal is to help students enjoy violin through cultural sounds, creative exploration, and meaningful musical experiences. My violin lessons focus on helping students develop a natural and expressive vibrato that adds emotion to their playing. I teach vibrato development through exercises that improve finger flexibility, control, and musical awareness. Students learn how to control the speed and width of vibrato to match different styles and moods.
I guide learners in applying vibrato naturally while shaping phrases and creating deeper musical expression. Each lesson includes focused practice routines and clear feedback to help students build confidence with this important technique. I believe vibrato should support the music instead of feeling forced or mechanical.
I use examples from different pieces to show how professional violinists use vibrato to create feeling and character. Students learn how small changes in vibrato can transform a simple melody into a more expressive performance. One student improved their confidence and tone quality after learning how to use vibrato with better control.
My teaching approach combines patience, detailed guidance, and practical exercises for steady progress. I help every learner develop a personal sound and add emotional depth to their violin playing.
