About Will
I've been teaching math one-on-one for 15+ years. I started in high school, tutoring my peers in a variety subjects -- geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. In college, I continued to tutor in math -- mainly algebra, discrete math, and calculus. While pursuing my MS and PhD, I taught logic classes to undergraduate students, and expanded the topics that I tutored -- graph theory, logic, game theory, decision theory, topology, and category theory, to name a few.
I received perfect scores on the ACT, SAT, and GRE math sections, and am equipped to tutor in any of these. I've studied, tutored, or taught nearly any math you'll find at the HS/undergrad level: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, discrete math, probability theory, graph theory, topology, game theory, combinatorics, decision theory, propositional logic, predicate logic, modal logic, model theory, category theory, and more. I have a BS in Mathematics (Gonzaga University), and an MS and PhD in Logic, Computation, and Methodology of Science (Carnegie Mellon University).

The best way to learn mathematics is by doing it yourself. For this reason, most of my lessons are problem-oriented -- we will work on problems together, and as you gain understanding and confidence, you will need less input from me. In cases where the student understands the material quite well, I may only provide a few prompts or hints; in cases where the student isn't quite sure what the problem is asking, I'll break down the concepts which are proving difficult.
Many students struggle with math because the material was framed using foreign vocabulary or concepts. Once things are presented in friendlier or less abstract terminology, they will often 'click' for the student. I am well-practiced at identifying these points of disconnect, and re-framing the material in a more approachable way.
