About Aven
Hi! I am a Chemistry tutor with an MSc and over 4 years of experience working with 200+ students at school and university level. I became a Chemistry tutor because I genuinely love the subject — the way that fundamental principles about electrons, energy, and bonding can explain the behavior of all matter is endlessly fascinating to me, and sharing that fascination with students and watching it unlock their understanding is one of the most satisfying things I do.
My specialist areas span the full breadth of Chemistry: Organic Chemistry including mechanisms, synthesis, stereochemistry, and spectroscopy; Inorganic Chemistry including main group chemistry, transition metals, and coordination compounds; and Physical Chemistry including thermodynamics, kinetics, quantum chemistry, electrochemistry, and spectroscopy. I am highly experienced with AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Cambridge International, and IB, and I tailor my teaching and practice materials precisely to each student's specific course. I bring patience, structure, enthusiasm, and high standards to every single session.

My Chemistry teaching is rooted in building deep conceptual understanding first, and then building the exam skills on top of that foundation. I begin every student relationship with a thorough diagnostic to identify exactly where their understanding breaks down, and I design every lesson from that point forward to directly and efficiently address those specific gaps.
I use detailed visual aids, annotated diagrams, and carefully chosen real-world analogies throughout my teaching to make abstract Chemistry concepts concrete, understandable, and genuinely memorable. For Organic Chemistry, I walk through every reaction mechanism step by step, explaining the electron movements and chemical logic behind each transformation so that students understand the underlying pattern of reactivity rather than trying to memorise individual reactions in isolation — an approach that is far more effective and far less overwhelming. For Physical Chemistry, I develop mathematical technique and conceptual understanding simultaneously, making sure students can tackle both qualitative explanation questions and quantitative calculation problems with equal confidence. For Inorganic Chemistry, I build understanding through periodic trends, patterns, and underlying principles rather than through isolated fact memorisation.
Exam preparation is woven into everything I do. I use extensive past paper practice, work through mark schemes in detail, and teach structured answer frameworks for written questions alongside systematic approaches to multi-step calculations. I give students the tools, the technique, and the exam strategy to walk into any Chemistry exam feeling genuinely prepared and confident.
