About Dean
I'm Dean Greer, an experienced technology trainer with over 20 years of experience in IT including systems administration, programming, and scripting. I've been teaching coding over Zoom since January 2022. I specialize in introducing complete beginners and junior programmers to the larger world of coding. With a unique style that is well structured, engaging, and fun, I instill a growth mindset in my students. Going against the grain of the current 'bootcamp' style of instruction, I emphasize the importance of principles that will aid in the student's long term development rather than trying to stuff as many subjects as possible into the course.

I've been tutoring online in the coding languages of Python, Java, C++, and C# for nearly 3 years. My overall approach is to fit the needed pace of the student. Experience has taught me that in order to serve the student, I must meet them where they are, understand their goals, then move them forward. Programming is difficult and it requires a proper mindset, repetition of principles, and extensive practice. In my sessions I emphasize these. In addition to the best instruction available, I offer students tips on the most important principles to key on as they study. Most programming instructors/professors are good coders but terrible teachers. I key on the teaching aspect of teaching coding and leave no student behind. I've taught students across the U.S. over the last 2.5 years ranging in ages from 7 to mid-60s. They say 'when the student is ready the teacher will appear'. I strongly recommend Dean. I have known Dean for 2 years when I began my python journey and needed a tutor. Since then he has been helping me as my python skills go from beginner to intermediate. He's extremely patient and will tailor the teaching to what you need/want. For example, I don't like solutions so he will help me think through the problem. He's very knowledgeable in Python and computer science in general.
