About Tom
Tom Stone – Tuba Performer & Educator I am a dedicated tuba performer and teacher with a passion for helping musicians unlock their potential through the power of brass music. With years of experience in solo, orchestral, and ensemble performance, I bring a deep understanding of the tuba’s rich tone and versatility to both the stage and the classroom. I graduated with a First-Class Bachelor of Music (Hons) degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) and am currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at the Royal College of Music (RCM). Throughout my musical journey, I’ve had the privilege of performing with prestigious ensembles such as the CBSO Youth Orchestra, the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra (YMSO), and participating in the BBC NOW Fellowship Scheme. I have also performed under renowned conductors, including Vasily Petrenko. As a tuba student, I’ve honed my craft under the guidance of distinguished teachers such as Pete Smith, Dan Trodden, Sasha Koushk-Jalali, and James Buckle. Their expertise has shaped my approach to performance and teaching, allowing me to provide students with a well-rounded and inspiring learning experience. Known for my engaging teaching style and ability to connect with students of all skill levels, I emphasise the fundamentals of brass playing while inspiring creativity and confidence. My approach combines technique, musicality, and personalised guidance to help students achieve their goals—whether preparing for auditions, improving ensemble performance, or mastering the tuba as a solo instrument. My love for the tuba extends beyond teaching—my performances showcase the instrument’s unique voice, proving its ability to shine in any musical setting. I am committed to fostering a love of music in my students while pushing the boundaries of what the tuba can achieve. When I’m not performing or teaching, I enjoy exploring new repertoire, collaborating with fellow musicians, and promoting the art of brass performance to new audiences.
