About Hazel
I have 12 years of experience as a singing tutor and hold a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, specializing in Lieder and Art Song. My teaching focuses on vocal improvisation for jazz and blues singers, helping students explore scat singing, melodic embellishment, and advanced harmony. I believe in a balanced approach that combines ear training with the practical application of scale and chord theory. Every lesson is personalized to meet the unique needs of each student, whether they are beginners or advanced singers. I work closely with students to develop strong vocal technique alongside performance skills and musical understanding. My goal is to help singers find their own improvisational voice and express themselves creatively. I enjoy guiding students as they build confidence and explore new ways to interpret music. Through patience and clear instruction, I support each learner’s artistic growth. Whether you want to strengthen your basics or master complex improvisation, I’m here to help you reach your full potential. Together, we’ll bring your voice to life with creativity and skill.

My teaching approach focuses on building strong skills for choral singing and ensemble performance. I emphasize vocal blending, helping singers match tone, pitch, and volume with others in the group. Sight-reading is an important part of my lessons, so choir members can quickly learn new music and feel confident during rehearsals.
I also teach part-singing, guiding students to understand their specific vocal lines and how to harmonize effectively. My methodology encourages active listening and teamwork, which are essential for creating a smooth and balanced choir sound. This helps every singer fit seamlessly into the ensemble.
I work well with musicians who play in orchestras or explore different musical styles, helping them adapt to group singing. Lessons are designed for group learners and focus on developing harmonious ensemble skills.
With regular practice and detailed feedback, students improve their ability to blend and perform confidently together. The goal is to help every singer become a valuable and reliable choir member. Together, we create music that sounds unified and beautiful.
