About Bella

Teaching saxophone is an enriching process that requires balancing rigorous technique with personal artistic development. I focus on establishing strong technical foundations—proper breath control, embouchure development, finger dexterity, posture, articulation, and tone quality—as these are essential for expressive and healthy playing. Intonation and rhythmic precision are continually refined to enhance musicality and confidence. I prioritize improvisation from the outset, guiding students through scale exercises, harmonic patterns, and creative phrasing to nurture spontaneous musical expression. Music theory is integrated in a practical, hands-on manner, directly tied to repertoire and improvisational work, so students grasp concepts meaningfully. Repertoire selection is tailored to individual interests, whether jazz standards, blues, pop, or classical, which keeps lessons engaging and relevant. I help students set clear goals and create structured practice plans that accommodate their lifestyles and foster consistent progress. Technology, including recording apps and metronomes, supports practice and critical listening. A memorable teaching experience involved coaching a student through their first public solo performance, marking a breakthrough in confidence and artistic expression. My mission is to guide saxophonists toward becoming skilled, creative, and passionate musicians who enjoy every stage of their musical journey.

My saxophone teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that learning an instrument should be a joyful, personalized journey that combines technical skill-building with expressive artistry.

From the very first lesson, I emphasize the importance of fundamentals—posture, breathing technique, embouchure formation, finger precision, articulation, tone quality, and rhythmic accuracy—which form the foundation for healthy playing and musical freedom. I tailor each lesson to the student’s individual goals, interests, and learning style, drawing from a broad spectrum of genres including jazz, classical, blues, and contemporary music to maintain engagement and relevance. I integrate music theory and ear training organically into lessons to develop a deeper musical understanding and improve improvisation and sight-reading skills.

Technology is a valuable asset in my teaching toolbox; I use recording devices, metronomes, tuners, and backing tracks to provide clear feedback and encourage disciplined practice habits. Performance is also a key focus—preparing students to manage nerves, connect with audiences, and present themselves confidently in recitals, school bands, and public performances.

A particularly gratifying experience was mentoring a student who, after overcoming initial technical challenges and performance anxiety, performed an emotionally compelling solo at a regional competition. Ultimately, my mission is to foster saxophonists who approach their instrument with technical confidence, creative curiosity, and a deep emotional connection that allows them to communicate authentically through music.
