About William

Hi, I’m William, a Cambridge Physics MSci graduate specialising in theoretical and computational physics. I tutor Physics, Maths and Further Maths, with a particular focus on university admissions preparation, entrance-test problem solving, and Oxbridge-style interviews.

I originally entered Cambridge through Natural Sciences, taking the NSAA as part of my application, and have since developed a strong academic record across some of the most mathematically and conceptually demanding areas of the Physics course. I achieved First-Class results in both my Natural Sciences BA and Physics MSci, ranking second in the Cambridge Physics cohort. In my master’s year, I averaged over 90% across all modules and received 97% for my final master’s thesis. My university studies have included advanced quantum mechanics, general relativity, statistical field theory, gauge theories and quantum field theory, alongside theoretical and computational research. I have also received multiple academic scholarships and prizes, and completed prize-winning original research in theoretical/computational physics.

About the lesson

I can support students preparing for ESAT Physics and Maths, NSAA/PAT-style problem solving, Cambridge Natural Sciences and Physics applications, and A-level Physics, Maths and Further Maths. I am also happy to help with personal statements, interview preparation, academic discussion, and developing the confidence to approach unfamiliar problems.

I focus strongly on fast, accurate problem solving, unfamiliar questions and clear physical intuition. I aim to help students understand not just how to get the answer, but why the method works, so they can adapt confidently to new questions under exam or interview pressure. I particularly enjoy problems that require both mathematical precision and physical intuition, which is exactly the style of thinking needed for challenging admissions tests and interviews.

Alongside tutoring, I have experience in outreach and admissions-related conversations through the Cambridge Physics Department, as well as giving academic talks and presentations. I have won prizes recognising my ability to communicate complex scientific ideas clearly, and I enjoy helping students move from memorising methods to genuinely understanding the physics behind them.
