About Avely
I want to teach the LNAT because I remember exactly what it felt like to sit on the other side of it, not knowing whether the skills the test demands could actually be taught, or whether I simply had to hope I already had them. I'm Avely Santhosh, a first-year Jurisprudence student at Magdalen College, Oxford, and the LNAT was one of the more disorienting parts of my own application journey: a test that doesn't reward memorised knowledge but a way of thinking, under time pressure, about arguments you may not even agree with.
Since starting at Oxford, I've stayed close to that process rather than moving on from it. I founded the law society at my old school, Douay Martyrs Catholic School, specifically because I wanted younger students to have the kind of structured exposure to legal reasoning that I had to piece together largely on my own. I currently tutor Year 12 students in both Law and LNAT preparation, and I mentor prospective Oxford applicants through their personal statements and interviews. What draws me to this work is watching a student go from treating the LNAT as an arbitrary hurdle to understanding it as a skill — spotting flawed premises, structuring a position clearly, arguing a side they don't personally hold — and seeing that skill genuinely improve with practice.
Teaching the LNAT lets me combine what I'm learning now as a law student with the part of this process I care most about: making sure a good test-taker isn't just someone who got lucky with how their brain works naturally, but someone who was properly prepared.
