About Bob
I am a Tin whistle, Low Whistle, Uilleann piper, and multi-instrumentalist from West Yorkshire with a long history of playing traditional music. I have a Masters of Music with a major in Composition, and graduated from Newcastle University's Folk and Traditional Music degree with First-Class Honours and have won several medals in the Comhaltas Fleadh Cheoil.
I have been teaching for many years and have over 6 years of performance experience, with a detailed knowledge of traditional and contemporary repertoire from England, Scotland, Ireland, Scandinavia, and Brittany. I am currently working with several ensembles, notable the Ango-Scandinavian group Vesterveg ((concealed information) and the English/Breton group Hearken Quartet.

My teaching style focuses on building a series of lessons from the ground up according to the experience and ability of each student, always at the pace of the student. Each student will be able to choose the types of repertoire they wish to learn, with each new piece of repertoire introducing new techniques or ideas. DISCLAIMER: I only teach Uilleann Bagpipes but was not a category for this instrument on the website. I cannot teach Great Highland Bagpipes.

Perfect! I have enjoyed learning with Bob
He is approachable and patient, has allowed me to set my own pace, and tailor my lesson experiences to suit what I am looking to achieve in my whistle playing. His experience as a uillean piper lends him a great approach to the low-whistle which allows us to explore repertoires beyond those directly written for the whistle. Would recommend Bob to anyone thinking of learning to play the Irish whistle (any key), or the uillean pipes.Excellent! Bob is a great teacher in a true sense. He has wealth of knowledge and expertise and is able to transmit in a practical, efficient, adaptable way and with a lot of patience, attention and friendliness. In my case I had a repertoire of 15/20 jigs that I was playing already without knowledge or practise of any ornements and poor technique. He was able to see all the flaws in my playing and progressively introduce practices and techniques and ornements and apply them with me on the tunes that I already knew.. Thanks to him my playing has greatly improved as well as my understanding of ornements and where and how to apply them. Last but no least, Bob is very likeable, easy going and patient.. It's a real pleasure to learn with him.. R

Bob has been a brilliant tutor who has really helped me develop confidence in my musicianship as well as technical ability. All of his lessons are very enjoyable with a relaxed feel. Would be happy to recommend him to anyone looking to further their music.
Robert is the best teacher I've had, he knows exactly how to explain things in a way thats easy to understand and hes so supportive that you feel you can do anything. He also really knows his stuff about music!
Bob is one of the best whistle players I have ever met, and has taught me loads of tunes over the years. Whether you’re a total beginner, want to learn advanced techniques, or just a new tune or two, I can’t think of a better person to be taught by than Bob. 5 stars!
