About BRYAN

Bryan Matluk is a seasoned Master Instructor in classical ballet with a focus on the Balanchine aesthetic. Mr. Matluk (Bryan to his students) was trained at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet under the tutelage and mentorship of founder Marcia Dale Weary. Where he also served as part-time faculty member, as Outreach and Summer Program Director and eventually as Acting Executive Director. Since then, Bryan has privately coached a number of pre-professional students who now attend institutions such as the School of American Ballet, Kirov Academy of Ballet, French Academie of Ballet, Boston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet and Manhattan Youth Ballet as well as taught at a number of companies including Lexington Ballet, Eglevsky Ballet, and Pennsylvania Ballet. In 2009 after graduating from the John F. Kennedy Center (now DeVos) Institute of Arts Management working with luminaries such as Suzanne Farrell and companies such as the Bolshoi Ballet and New York City Ballet, Mr. Matluk moved to Philadelphia where he began working with a series of dance companies including BalletX and COMPLEXIONS Contemporary Ballet. Bryan was a lead faculty member of the Sandonato School of Ballet and Ballet Master for several productions with the Eglevsky Ballet (featuring Lia Cirio and James Whiteside) and the Wilmington Ballet (featuring Abi Stafford). After moving back home to Maine in 2013, Bryan taught at several smaller dance schools and with one exception, found the level of professional training, while lacking in rigor and passion, also lacked in a holistic approach to the development of young artists. In the summer of 2015 he founded Exchange Street Studio to continue the educational opportunities of his current students and expose new bodies to his love of classical ballet. Most of Bryan's current students have studied with him for an average of 4 years.

About the lesson

I am a protégé of Marcia Dale Weary—described by The New York Times as “one of the country’s foremost ballet teachers”—I believe that every student, regardless of age, level, or background, deserves the best training possible. I follow a prescribed syllabus used by the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet where we focus on a holistic approach to technique and individual development. We focus first on a strong technical foundation supported by a deep understanding of musicality, dance history, stylistic nuances, and cross-training to develop well-rounded dancers. For all students, health and nutrition are paramount. For those still in school, a "B" average or better is required for lessons.
