About Maelle

I'm Maëlle, a native French speaker originally from Bordeaux, now living in London. French is my mother tongue, and I've spent my whole life immersed in it before moving abroad and using English professionally for the past several years — so I understand exactly what's hard about learning French as a second language, because I've lived the reverse experience myself.

Alongside teaching, I've spent over 7 years working in investment banking, private equity, and investor relations for listed companies — which means I bring real-world, professional communication experience into my teaching, especially useful for adults learning French for work or relocation.

My own boyfriend is English, and watching him navigate learning French — the frustration of feeling silly mid-sentence, the relief when a rule finally clicks, the confidence that builds once you can actually joke around in the language — has taught me a lot about what real progress looks like, and how much patience and encouragement matter along the way.

I also have a close English friend who's married to a French man, and for years her biggest complaint wasn't grammar or vocabulary — it was that he simply spoke too fast, and family dinners left her feeling lost and excluded rather than included. That's stayed with me, because it's rarely the "textbook" problems that hold people back; it's the real-life moments — a rambling in-law, a fast-talking waiter, a joke you missed — that make people give up or lose confidence.

That's really what I care about most: not just teaching French, but helping you actually love speaking it — enjoying the process, laughing at your own mistakes, and feeling included rather than overwhelmed. Whether you're 8 years old and just starting out, or an adult trying to keep up with a French partner's family, my approach stays the same: patient, encouraging, and focused on real, lived moments — not just memorising rules.

Whether you're a complete beginner, brushing up on rusty French, preparing for a move to France, or need French for work, I offer lessons tailored to exactly where you are and what you want to achieve.

I'm a native French speaker from Bordeaux, now based in London, with a professional background spanning investment banking, private equity, and investor relations across major listed companies — meaning I'm equally comfortable teaching everyday conversational French and helping professionals build confidence in a business context.

I teach:
