About Julian

I am a Politics and Chinese student at the University of Manchester. I am a native-level speaker who has given classes in English, German, and especially French since I was about 16. I have been through the entire French education system from preschool to the final Baccalaureate exam. Alongside this, I have also completed the French IGCSE (comparable to the GCSE) and passed the speaking, written, and understanding exams with full marks. The students I have taught were between the ages 10 and 16 while their proficiency levels before I started teaching them ranged between complete beginner and intermediate.

About the lesson

I adapt my classes to the needs of my student. Generally, I begin my first class by assessing their strengths and weaknesses in categories such as comprehension, writing, reading, and speaking. Once I have fully understood their needs I will tailor each lesson to what they need to work on. For instance, if my student is practicing French for school or an exam I will request that they send me pages from the chapter(s) they are currently working on so I can create a set lesson plan.

If my student is practicing French for work, an exchange, or another reason then my teaching methodology will revolve more around their specific needs.
As an example: somebody going to meet their extended family in Paris or going on a trip to the coast in Nice may be more interested in learning everyday spoken and slang French (Courant/ Familier) than someone who needs French for work and may want to focus more on formal French (soutenu) as well as reading and writing.

In all cases, I may set small tasks to do at home such as reading a text, watching a French Video, or completing a paper I send to aid with the subject of the next lesson.
