About Caroline

I was born in France, where I grew up surrounded by its history and culture — something I've always been passionate about. I'm someone who loves learning just as much as teaching; I believe curiosity is contagious, and sharing what I know with others is one of the things I enjoy most. I'm also a big traveler, and it's through my travels that I learned English and Spanish along the way. Outside of tutoring, I'm a big fan of the outdoors, but my love for culture, history, and storytelling has always stayed close to my heart — which is exactly why I enjoy weaving French history and culture into my French lessons.

About the lesson

My name is Caroline, and I've been tutoring French for 4 years, since I arrived in Canada. Over the years, I've mostly worked with children between 8 and 14 years old, though I'm able to adapt my teaching to any level, including adults. Every student is unique, so my teaching adapts to each person rather than the other way around.

Teaching methodology and techniques

I tailor my approach depending on the student's needs: some children need school reinforcement and homework help to keep up with their class, while others are starting French completely from scratch. In both cases, I focus on building confidence first — a student who feels comfortable making mistakes learns much faster. I use conversation, reading, writing exercises, and games depending on age and level, always adjusting the pace to the learner.

One thing I especially love doing is combining basic French lessons with French history and culture. I find that language sticks much better when it's connected to something meaningful — a story, a historical event, a tradition — rather than taught as isolated grammar rules. It also makes lessons more engaging and gives students a real sense of why they're learning the language.

A typical lesson

A typical lesson starts with a quick check-in on homework or recent schoolwork, followed by a short review of previous material. Then we move into the main focus of the day — whether that's grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, or a cultural theme tied to a bit of French history. I like to end each session with a fun, lower-pressure activity (a game, a short story, or conversation practice) to keep motivation high.

What sets me apart

Beyond my experience tutoring French, I'm fluent in English and Spanish, which helps me explain concepts in whichever language makes things click for the student. I'm also very adaptable — I don't use a rigid, one-size-fits-all program, but build lessons around what each person actually needs, whatever their age or level.

Who my lessons are for

My lessons are mainly designed for children aged 8 to 14, whether they're complete beginners learning French for the first time or students who need extra support to keep up with their school curriculum. That said, I'm just as comfortable adapting my methods for teenagers and adults, tailoring content and pace to each learner's goals — whether that's passing a test, catching up in class, or simply building a genuine love for the French language.
