About Nicola

Hi I'm Nicola!

I am a recent graduate who studied geography at the University of Glasgow. I have been tutoring for four years and have completed over 1000 hours of lessons both online and in person (I am more than happy to show certificates of this upon request). My previous tutoring experience has been through MyTutor (including the National Tutoring Program run in schools, MagiKats and GoStudent which means I know the national curriculum inside and out and lots of great maths tricks and hints!

These platforms have given me a fantastic insight into many different tutoring skills, techniques and approaches that mean I can help students reach their absolute potential so they can ace their exams!

My qualifications include a grade 9 (A**) in Maths GCSE and English Language GSCE and a grade A in A-Level Maths. I would love to help students build their confidence, strengthen their skills and foster a strong belief in themselves that they too can achieve highly in maths! :)

Throughout my first year at university, I volunteered with a mentoring charity called Citywise. Citywise works to mentor children about subject matters not covered in the mainstream curriculum. We would deliver lessons on self-confidence, self-control and how to build resilience. This was a very rewarding position as I love to help the younger generation realise their potential and help them grow as individuals.

About the lesson

I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable enough to ask questions at any point. I make it my priority to ensure students feel at ease in lessons, leaving them feeling confident to ask any questions and speak up when they don't understand. I structure my lessons to each student's individual needs. Whether that is giving me particular topics and worksheets to work on or if a student would like to follow a teaching plan I have created with top-quality resources and teaching methods.

My approach to teaching is to ensure that the student is constantly engaged with exciting resources and that all knowledge delivered in a lesson is current and relevant to the subject and exams a student is completing. I am friendly and approachable, and I believe creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere whilst tutoring is key to a student's success.

I also offer a parent feedback service where I will send a lesson report after each lesson so you can be kept in the loop about what we have worked on, their strengths and weaknesses. It is a great way to see your child's progress week by week!
