About Ashley
I am a fun and enthusiastic person with a love of psychology. I am very keen to put my expertise to good use and help students to identify their areas of academic strength and where there is room for improvement. I am a very positive person who would want to encourage students to actively participate in their learning and push themselves out of their comfort zone to increase their academic potential.
My non-academic interests are broad. I am a keen hockey player, playing for over 14 years. I played for the past 4 years for my university 1st team and captained the team in my third year. Aside from hockey, my other hobbies include singing/music, art, and horse riding.

Academic Background:
I am a 22-year-old graduate with two psychology degrees and an interest in teaching and childcare. I am enthusiastic, driven, and fun and I am looking to put my expertise to good use by supporting and helping students to advance their understanding of Psychology. I have achieved a First Class Honours BSc in Psychology. I have also just completed my MSc Forensic Psychology degree from Royal Holloway University of London, achieving a distinction with a further award for scientific excellence and achieving the highest mark on the course. Additionally, I am delighted to have achieved 92% in my dissertation and I am currently in the process of editing the draft to be submitted for publication.
Your tutoring/teaching experience:
I am fully DBS checked that has been recently renewed as of October 2021. I have achieved a Level 3 childcare award and have been providing professional childcare for over 3 years. I have completed 2 weeks of work experience in both a mainstream and a special needs school. My previous experience of tutoring involved 6 months of tutoring GCSE maths and English. I have many years of experience of supporting both mainstream children and those with speech and language difficulties and Autism. On a semi-regular basis, over two years, I volunteered in a primary school within a resource base and supported children with learning difficulties. With several years’ experience of working with children, I understand the patience and warmth necessary to support children and make them feel comfortable to learn and step out of their comfort zone to develop their understanding and academic ability.
Your teaching styles:
As a tutor I would aim to provide a student-centred approach, giving them ample opportunities to interact and participate actively in their learning. From experience I believe many students learn best by recognising their mistakes and guiding them to rectify these mistakes on their own terms. Asking students where they think they might have made an error, and what they could do differently to achieve a better result. I believe patience and listening exactly to what the student wants to achieve out of each session is vital to provide effective support. For example, as a tutor, avoiding yes/no response questions encourages learners to think more about their responses rather than just providing them with the information.
